BYU MBB Gets a No. 6 Seed in NCAA Tournament (Provo, UT)

BYU is a six seed.

I don't think it's a surprise to anyone. A five seed was still possible and had they won the Big 12 tournament they could have ended up as a four or even a three seed which would have been insane.

They're in the same region as No. 2 seed Iowa State who won the Big 12 conference tournament, and No. 1 overall seed UCONN who looks dominant.

PROVO, Utah – For the 31st time in program history, including the second time under fifth-year head coach Mark Pope, BYU men’s basketball will play in the NCAA Tournament.

Receiving at at-large bid, No. 20 BYU earned the No. 6 seed in the East region as announced on Sunday evening on the NCAA Selection Show broadcast live on CBS. The Cougars will open play Thursday in Omaha, Neb., against No. 11-seeded Duquesne in the Round of 64. The winner of that game will then play a second-round matchup on Saturday against the winner of No. 3 Illinois and No. 14 Morehead State.

The matchup between BYU and Duquesne will be the third all-time meeting between the two programs and first since Dec. 28, 1953. The Dukes won the A-10 tournament on Sunday earning its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 47 years.

BYU is 15-33 all-time in the NCAA Tournament including a 3-2 record as a sixth seed. The 2024 tournament marks the third time the Cougars are a six seed and second under Pope.
