There's nothing worse than spelling, except youth soccer.

I used to watch the National Spelling Bee on ESPN every summer. Those kids were freaks and they must have had abusive parents. Who could possibly want to devote their childhood to knowing how to spell "drahthaar"?

If it were up to me, all spelling bees would be cancelled in favor of geography bees. If you can tell me a couple of countries in South America that's much more impressive than knowing a bunch of weird words nobody has ever heard of.

That being said, in my opinion, the hardest to spell city in Utah is "Mantua" pronounced man-Away.

That's absurd. It looks like a normal city name but then when you hear how to pronounce it you've gotta be kidding me.

According to Wikipedia:

"The first group arrived in Mantua in 1863 (although a sign at the main entry route states "Founded 1864"),[5] and were all émigrés from Denmark led by Hans Jens Jensen. Snow was from Mantua, Ohio, and the town was named after the Ohio community in his honor. Due to Danish pronunciation the town's pronunciation was changed to ("man-Away") unlike Ohio's ("man-tooway")"

So originally it was intended to be pronounced "man-tooway" which is still tough, but then it became "man-away" over time.

Other city names that are usually mentioned are Oquirrh and Tooele.

I think that's a pretty good top three list for the state. Nobody would ever know how to spell any of these. They're like names of kids from Utah.
