Something familiar and nostalgic that shaped our childhood could soon be shutting down across Utah and Nevada! This was a place that we would find ourselves at after ball games, during birthday parties, and maybe just a lucky Friday night with family.

Pizza Hut, the company that will be facing closures of up to 250 locations worldwide recently announced the devastating news. The parent company, Yum Brands mentioned that these closures will be targeting 250 underperforming locations over the next year. So if your local Pizza Hut isn't absolutely crushing it... they're probably on the chopping block!

Facing the Cuts: Pizza Hut’s Global Closure Strategy

No list has been released. No maps. And No “don’t worry, Utah and Nevada are safe” memos. This is where things are going to get uncomfortable for us. Currently, Utah has 66 Pizza Hut locations, while Nevada has 36 of their own. Are they all safe? Maybe. Possibly. Are some of them the EXACT type of older, dine-in, red-roof buildings that the company wants to move away from? Probably.

And if you’ve ever seen a Pizza Hut close, you know exactly what happens next. The building sits there. Empty. Waiting. Eventually, something new moves in: a new Mexican restaurant, a tanning salon, or maybe even  a payday loan place, but no matter what it becomes, you can always tell. The shape of a Pizza Hut can be spotted miles away. It's got the unmistakable roofline. I've even seen a Domino's inside an old Pizza Hut, and that just felt wrong!

More Than Just Pizza: The Childhood Memories Tied to Pizza Hut

If you grew up in the 1990's, this hits a little harder than it should! Pizza Hut wasn't just a restaurant, or food... it was a reward! Remember growing up, if you read an entire book, you could get a coupon for that personal pan pizza? It was the best trophy I ever received! You'd sit in that booth with your tiny pizza, feeling like you just won the lottery!
