Chapter 4 Caves of Learning Installment 20
In this school, set in a labyrinth of caves and taught by older demons, students were instructed in the skills of intimidation and manipulation. While they learned mathematics, language, chemistry, physics and most importantly history, those weren’t taught for some future trade. These subjects were taught to increase the pupil’s ability to curse others and gain an advantage over them.
The next day, Succubus and the other yearlings followed Bune’s old bent form as he shuffled back through the passages towards their classroom.
“Pay attention where you are going,” said Bune. “It is not my job to lead you around forever.”
Succubus began to pay more attention to their route.
You Call this a Classroom?
At last, they arrived at a large open cavern with a black polished floor. Stepping inside, Succubus saw the walls were smooth and set with burning torches. The room was mostly bare except at the front of the cave, where a large triangle was carved into the smooth surface. On the floor there were long slabs of rock like benches to sit on. Standing at the front of the cavern-like classroom, Succubus saw their new instructor, the demon named Borgin.

Tall, slender, with sunken eyes and an arrogant face, horns thrust from his forehead then bent straight up. With high cheekbones and a sloping face, Borgin looked haughty and aloof. His clothing was the rough, beaten root sort except for a red satin sash from his shoulder to his waist.
Becoming a Teacher
After the recent summoning ceremony, Borgin had submitted to the trials administered by the Ten where he had passed and had been recognized as fully trained. But he had not been given leave to enter the human world. Instead, the Council of Ten had elected him to teach the latest class of yearlings, newly summoned.

He was quite young in Demon terms and quite inexperienced, yet Borgin felt that teaching spikes was way below his abilities. He hated spending any more time in this burning prison. He dreaded being forgotten in the Caves of Learning, never to enter the human world.
