The Minecraft movie is causing mayhem in theatres around the country and even here in Utah. A trend that began on TikTok has kids yelling out at certain parts of the movie and throwing popcorn and sodas. So, how much serious trouble can someone get in for trashing a theatre?

Theatres Will Remove Rowdy Fans

Local movie theatres have brought in security and will remove those who follow the social media trend. Some theatres say any minor has to be accompanied by an adult that will watch the movie with them.

News of a student bringing a live chicken into the movie in Provo made national news. Having a live farm animal running around could cause some damage in chicken poop alone, but it could also rile the crowd even more.

Class A Misdemeanor in Utah for Damage to a Business

This is where things can get serious. Throwing soda and popcorn can damage the seats and walls, but if someone slips and falls as a result, this gets into lawsuit territory. A live chicken could easily cause an accident as well.

The first offense is a Class A misdemeanor can get you up to a year in jail and a fine up to $2,500. This goes up quickly if there are prior offenses. When the police get involved, all the fun goes out the window.
