Smug Best Movie List from the NY Times Looks Nothing Like The Films Popular in Utah
The New York Times made a list of what they feel are the best movies of the 21st century which you can see at the bottom of this article. Looking at the movies people in Utah search for on the internet, you’ll find none of these on the list.
Utah Loves Fantasy Movies Adapted from Novels
A couple of years ago a firm looked at Google searches for Harry Potter and Utah was far and away the most interested. Same goes for Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, and the Twilight series.
The number of movies adapted from novels on the Times list is a total of zero. I have only heard of about half of these movies from the Times. I admit that I’m am not someone Hollywood wants voting for their best picture. They would see me as a heathen.
Still, it seems like at least one Lord of the Rings movie could be in the top ten. I get that Harry Potter and Twilight don’t make the list, but I think they were a lot more influential then at least 9 of those movies the Times picked.
Critic of the Critics Top List of Movies Since 2000
These are the movies with the best audience scores. In other words, normal people see the occasional movie on the weekend voted for these. Number one on the list is “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”. This makes more sense.
There’s a “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie on there along with “Interstellar” and “The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring”. There’s some movies i think are dumb like “Spring Breakers”, but overall I would trust this list more than the snooty critics.
