The University of Utah with some help from the state has created a supercomputer that will help break down large projects for researchers. It was built to be a shared resource for people in the state. So, does that mean you can use it?

Funding the Future: A Collaborative Effort

The state of Utah gave a one time grant of $15 million dollars to the project. There was another $50 million put in by a private donor. From this an AI supercomputer was created that is among the fastest in the world.

Why do we need a super computer to run AI when your average desktop can do it? This makes it possible to take a large project like medical research, and use the speed of the computer and its ability to work through huge amounts of data to find a solution.

Fast Technology for Innovation: Who Can Benefit?

They describe it as an ecosystem where researchers, businesses, even students can use the power of AI to find new results and solve complex challenges. The vision is to bring to Utah the power of computers and AI to solve real world problems.

So, does this mean you can tap into this supercomputer to have it read through your emails and answer each one? Can you upload family photos and turn them into funny videos to share at the next reunion? Um...no.

However, it may lead to break throughs in Utah's energy needs, a greater understanding of cancer research, even a better use of education resources. These are just some of the current projects this computer has been slated to help with.

You may not have it writing the latest hit country son, but it may improve your life in ways you didn't expect.
