Weird Babylon Of Utah Is DESOLATE Like Its Namesake
Few Know of This Ghost Town in Southern Utah
When they were mining Silver Reef in the 1870’s there was a mill built and a small town settled by twenty or so families. They might have named it Babylon because of all the different languages spoken or maybe to set them apart from their church going neighbors.
It was an appropriate name as it seemed to be cursed like the place in the middle east. The few stories of the town report a man who committed suicide and a cabin that burned down. Some have speculated the land was cursed by former inhabitants.
The remains of the old mill can be found not too far from Leeds on the Babylon Mill Rd. Traveling down this dirt road you can find the ghost town on the banks of the Virgin River.
The Curse of Fire Continued into Modern Times
In the 1980’s a man named John Vought bought the land and decided to build a house on it. Midway through construction, you can guess what happened. It burned down. A short time later he decided to try again and just like in the past, the place burned again.
Now the remains of the cement work sit in the hot Southern Utah sun. It has been marked up by graffiti and has that eerie abandoned feeling.
