Weird: Fake Town Story In Utah Goes Viral on Social Media
Utah has been home to fake towns before and maybe that is why this story that showed up on the internet in 2019 keeps making the rounds. The person who wrote it describes driving through Southern Utah at night and a surreal experience in a town off the highway.
Fake German & Japanese Villages Constructed for Bombing
Realistic towns have been built across the U.S. for training exercises. At Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah the military built realistic German and Japanese buildings so they could practice dropping bombs on them.
There have been similar facilities constructed for later wars like those in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hogan’s Alley in Virginia is a fake U.S. town that was built so the FBI could train for hostage situations. It is still in use today and you can visit it.
Is There Some Truth to This Fake Town Utah Tale?
The story from 2019 describes how the person ended up in a town in the evening just off highway 89. He saw fast food places and hotels with no one working inside. There was also jazz music playing throughout the streets on loudspeakers.
He finally found someone at McDonalds and ordered some food. It gets stranger when the same person helps him at a motel. You can see a good breakdown of the story from this YouTube channel although you should be aware there is some expletives.
It seems like the story certainly could be made up, but some commenters say it is totally plausible. They site examples of these other fake towns that have been created for training. Even then, the whole thing seems far-fetched.
