Is Southern Utah’s Coffee Culture Finally Waking Up To Coffee Shops?

Utah isn’t exactly known for its love of coffee, but that doesn’t mean that Utahns aren’t consuming the beverage.  

With a heavy LDS population, soda shops are the more popular beverage of choice in the beehive state, however there are those (like me) who still drink coffee. In fact, coffee shops have been popping up more and more in Southern Utah over the last few years.  

Now there is even a Dunkin' Donuts and several Dutch Bros coffee locations!

How Much Coffee Does Utah Drink? 

Maybe it's because of Utah culture, but the state is still on the lower end of coffee consumption despite all the new coffee shops. A study from Balance Coffee found that Utahns drink 1.29 cups of coffee per day in 2025.  

Utah drinks the least amount of coffee per day in the U.S. 

This isn’t really a surprise, but it’s still interesting because Utah has been growing so much.  

Coffee Statistics In The U.S.

In the U.S. about 80% of the population drinks at least on cup of coffee a day, the study found. Since the pandemic, more people have been brewing at home (8%). Now, the 79% of U.S. coffee drinkers brew at home.  

This is a real money saver even though going to get coffee at a local shop is super fun and yummy. However, only about 36% of U.S. coffee drinkers go to a coffee shop once a week. An even smaller number, 12%, go daily.

Coffee is a pick-me-up for a lot of folks, even in Utah, but it can be super expensive to go out all the time. Which is why coffee makers are more popular than ever at home. Drip coffee remains the No.1 in coffee machine types bought by U.S. households.  

So, if you are a Utah coffee consumer, you’re on the lower end BUT that could always change.
