Expensive: Utahns Will Pay More For These Products
Tariffs have been all over the news since January with President Donald Trump’s initiative and now more foods are expected to get a price raise.
Utahns have already felt the rising prices in products like eggs with the Bird Flu making the product difficult to produce. As a staple food, it's definitely been a bummer at Utah grocery stores.
Well now less obvious foods impacted by Trump’s tariffs will be rising in cost.
Reader's Digest gave 10 foods that consumers can expect to shell out more for with the new tariffs going into place on April 5. The variety is wide and is unfortunate news for everyone.
Produce will be hit the hardest. Here are the produce products Utahns can expect to rise in cost:
- Tomatoes
- Avocados
- Lettuce
- Peppers
- Strawberries
Meat Products Utahns Can Expect to Cost More:
- Beef
- Salmon
Other Products Impacted by Tariffs:
- Canola Oil
- Maple Syrup
- Beer
- Coffee
- iPhone
- Cars
- Chocolate
- Sugar
- Wine
- Clothes
Reader's Digest said that products from Canada and Mexico with a 25% tariff will see about a $1.25 increase. So, maple syrup that costs $5 will now cost $6.25 which is a significant increase.
Since grocery stores already have a narrow profit margin it will be up to the consumer to make up the difference.
There will be a 10% tariff on all imported goods to the U.S. and other countries are imposing their own retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. People can expect cars and car parts to cost more starting this Spring.
Utahns should expect to see a significant increase in their grocery shopping starting this weekend.
