Southern Utah Football Signing Day with Coach Delane Fitzgerald
Full interview with Coach Delane Fitzgerald above.
On the February Signees:
“We just went in and cleaned up some things and added four guys that are really going to help our roster. Four guys that were in need positions for us. And we’re excited about that.”
“There’s three tiers. You’ve got the scholarship guys, then you’ve got the PWO’s, which is what I was to James Madison originally so I can relate to those kids pretty well. And then we have the walk-ons. The difference is the preferred walk-on comes to camp with you in most situations. The last day of July, first day of August, and the other guys join you. When school starts.”
On Nick Petrillio
“Nick Petrillio is a Tight End out of Fort Union Military Academy. It is an all male military prep school in Virginia pretty close to where I grew up. Fort Union has a lot of Hall of Famers came out of there…Eddie George, Vinny Testaverde, Orlando Pace, Plaxico Burress…we got to watch Nick on film and really liked what we saw out of him. He’s 6’3” 245lbs, but a Tight End who can be effective in the run game and the pass game.”
On James Bohls
“James Bohls is a transfer running back out of the University of Arizona and he’s a Southern California kid…He did some pretty good things during his two years at Arizona, and we’re excited about him.”
On Arnez Madison
“Arnez Madison is joining us out of a Junior College in Southern California and Arnez is one of two corners we’re bringing in. He’s going to be a very very good football player. He’s got three to play two, but a DB that is big and physical and can flip his hips and run with anybody in our conference.”
On AJ Felton
“AJ Felton played for us in Frostburg so he’s a guy that our coaching staff is very familiar with. AJ is a 5-foot-9 spark plug and he can also help us in the kicking game.”
