Utah State Announces New AD

There is nothing that annoys a Utah State person more than being told they went to BYU North. Or worse, that they went to BYU Idaho South. I had an older brother who would make fun of people that went to Utah State by comparing it to a wannabe BYU, or by saying that the kids who go to Utah State only went there because they could not get into BYU. This sentiment is enough to make an Aggie’s blood boil.

Which is why this era of Utah State athletics is a little tricky.

BYU just hired a new athletic director who is straight out of BYU central casting. Cam Walker. He was born in Rexburg, went to Ricks, and looks like a young David Bednar. He worked in Title IX at UVU before going other places. He is probably a little too much like BYU for some Aggies. Of course Bronco was the most BYU coach anyone has ever seen. He was too BYU even for BYU.

You have a bunch of former BYU players on your roster this year, including one of your best players, Consider Me Miles Davis. It has to be hard for Aggies, who have always prided themselves on being a completely different animal than BYU, to accept the BYUification of their athletics over the last couple of years. But I think it is going to work out fine. Utah State was in need of some clean up and it feels like they're going in the right direction.
