Shower Thought - January 21, 2026

About 15 years ago one of the biggest knocks on the state of Utah is that they paid their teachers poorly compared to other states. States like Arkansas and Mississippi, who still paddle their students, were were living it up meanwhile teachers in our beloved Beehive State were falling behind. But after years of protest, Utah began to pay their teachers more, to the point that now Utah was ranked 2nd in the country for average starting salary by WalletHub. That's great news they deserve it. Teaching is the toughest job there is. Well second toughest...

The toughest job is referee. This past weekend NFL referees stole the show once again in the divisional round of the playoffs. All anybody could talk about on Monday was how inconsistent the refs were. It's a tough job. And here's part of the problem. NFL referees are not full time employees of the NFL. They're just part timers. That means after they ref the game on Sunday they've gotta go back to Battle Creek Michigan to be a dentist the rest of the week, or zoom back to Schaumburg Illinois to be a lawyer until next Sunday. So instead of watching game film to see all the times they screwed up, they're out hustling selling cars at Bob Rohrmann's Chevrolet. The NFL has more money than the Saudi King Abdulaziz. It's time to respect these poor refs, make them full time employees of the NFL, and maybe they'll stop sucking so bad.
