PRESS RELEASE
"The Utah Tech University Athletic Department combined to post a 3.32 cumulative GPA among its 15 varsity sports for the 2023-24 academic year. This year's GPA included a 3.30 spring GPA, to go with last fall's 3.34 average, which marked the 14th-straight semester and the 19th semester in the last 22 overall that Trailblazer student-athletes combined to earn at least a 3.00 GPA.
In addition, this year's 3.32 GPA is the second-highest grade point average in its NCAA era, bested only by a 3.385 average set during the 2019-20 academic year.
In all, 14 of Utah Tech's 15 varsity sports posted at least a 3.00 overall GPA this past season, with the women's golf team leading the way with a department-best 3.79 GPA.
The Trailblazer women's swimming program finished second on the list with a 3.71 GPA, followed by women's cross country (3.68), women's volleyball (3.67), and the men's golf team (3.65 GPA) rounded out the top-five overall.
"The overall continued academic achievements and success of our student-athletes in the classroom have become a true hallmark of Trailblazer Athletics and Utah Tech University," said Ken Beazer, Utah Tech Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "Their dedication to excel in the classroom, and in extending this remarkable GPA streak, is a tribute to the tireless work done on their behalf collectively by our athletic academic support staff, our coaches, and our incredible faculty."
This past spring, nearly 68 percent of Utah Tech's 385 student-athletes (260-of-385) posted at least a 3.2 GPA, including 122 Trailblazers who recorded a 3.75 or higher GPA, with 11 of those student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Of the 11 student-athletes who recorded 4.0 GPAs this spring, five were members of the Trailblazer women's track and field teams. In addition, 104 student-athletes were included on the Dean's List (3.5 GPA), with 55 of those student-athletes making onto the President's List.
"We are incredibly proud of our Utah Tech student athletes for their outstanding achievements this semester," said Mike Olson, UT Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services and Student-Athlete Welfare. "Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to their studies have once again showcased the high caliber of student-athletes we have at Utah Tech. They have exemplified what it means to be a scholar and an athlete, and we celebrate their success!"
Although the Western Athletic Conference has not yet announced its academic all-conference teams for the 2024 spring season, a combined 81 Trailblazer student-athletes were named to the 2023-24 WAC fall and winter sport academic all-conference teams. That number includes a conference-leading 51 honorees during the 2023 fall sports season."
Congratulations to all the coaches and players!
