Utah Tech Women Dominate in Greece
Utah Tech has put on a clinic in Greece. Giannis Antetokounmpo's sister ain't walking through that door apparently.
This is such a cool story and an awesome experience for these Trailblazers I'm sure. Here's the press release from UT Athletics Media Relations: (full release here)
"The Utah Tech women's basketball team wrapped up its two-game Greek exhibition schedule with a perfect 2-0 record thanks to an 88-68 victory over the Athens All-Stars on Monday night in Athens.
Freshman Kastyn Young led all scorers with 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting, including a 6-of-13 clip from the perimeter. The Trailblazer newcomer averaged 25.5 points in the two exhibition games, including a game-high 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting with five 3-pointers in last Saturday's win over Greece's Amilia Peristeriou Basketball Club.
Sophomore guard Amber Kartchner also enjoyed another solid outing as she poured in 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Kartchner also collected three assist and picked off two steals.
In addition, fifth-year guard Breaunna Gillen just missed a triple-double as she filled the stat sheet with 10 points, along with team-highs of 10 rebounds and six assists.
Utah Tech connected on 32-of-75 (.427) of its field goal attempts, which included a 16-of-51 effort (.314) effort from beyond the arc. The Blazers also tallied 30 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 steals.
The Trailblazers will enjoy one more full day on their first-ever international trip to Greece on Tuesday before returning home on Wednesday."
I'm really excited to see Kartchner continue to develop as a bonafide D-1 star. She has so many tools. And obviously Kastyn Young can't miss. Congrats to the Trailblazers on an amazing trip.
