Why Utah IN-N-OUT Locations Have Crossed Palm Trees
IN-N-OUT is like a food church for a fat man like me.
If I drive within a mile radius of IN-N-OUT, I'm going to it. It doesn't matter what time it is or when I ate last, I am U-turning my saturated fat butt to IN-N-OUT.
There's something about the smell of the grilled onions that pours out of their roof that lures you in and you can't say no.
For IN-N-OUT aficionados, this might be an obvious piece of trivia, but I didn't know this.
The reason why many IN-N-OUT locations have crossed palm trees isn't just because it's a California based company and palm trees are synonymous with California, it's because of a very specific reason.
According to Yahoo!: (LINK TO FULL ARTICLE)
"The idea actually came from the founder's favorite movie: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." The 1963 film depicts a group of characters searching for treasure that is discovered under a group of palm trees that grew in a "W" formation. In-N-Out's founder loved the idea of his prized possession — In-N-Out restaurants, obviously — also being marked in such a way, and thus the crossing of palm trees was born."
That's pretty cool.
I have to be honest, I've never seen that movie.
