There's an old sports cliché that coaches tell their bench players.
And it's something like, stay ready so you don't have to get ready! You never know when you're moment is going to come, so be ready for it. You're gonna get maybe one chance to make a play, and you have to take advantage of that one chance.

Big 12 fans are complaining about it. It's unfair! Why is it all SEC teams?!
Because you didn't make a play! You were given a chance to go in and make a play and you didn't. So the starter is coming back in.

Arizona State, who got a first round bye last year, lost to Texas in the Peach Bowl. It was an awesome game that went to double overtime, bit the Sun Devils came up short.
Boise State, another non-Big 10 and SEC school who got a first round bye, lost to Penn State in a game that wasn't close at the Fiesta Bowl.
TCU lost 65 to 7 in the national championship when they got their shot in 2023.
If non SEC and Big 10 conferences like the Big 12 want more respect and placement in the college football playoff, then win a game! Make a play when you get your chance.
