Careful! These Pets are ILLEGAL to Own in Utah
Pets became popular in the 1970's when parents we're like: "I'm going to the discotech."
And they needed someone to watch their children and animals charged a lower rate than Samantha down the street.
So the dog would watch Maud with the kid until he fell asleep and then he'd have his way with the furnishings.
I came from a non-pet family. I've only ever had a goldfish and a turtle. The turtle ran away and the goldfish was murdered.
And I guess this is why states feel it necessary to put some parameters on pet ownership.
In the state of Utah it's illegal to own certain animals.

"Are you interested in collecting or possessing lizards, snakes and frogs? Starting in 2020, Utah has new rules that oversee the state’s reptiles and amphibians. Depending on the species you’re interested in — and what you plan to do with them — you may need a special permit or document to collect or keep certain animals. For more information see: Reptiles & amphibians"
Here's the amphibians you can't own:
- Columbia spotted frog (pictured above)
- Relict leopard frog
- Western or boreal toad
- Arizona toad
- Gila monster (pictured below)
- Mojave (or Mohave) desert tortoise
There's also a list of animals like these that you could get a misdemeanor for owning as pets.
- Raccoons
- Striped skunks
- Coyotes
- Ground squirrels
- Gophers
- Jack rabbits
- Muskrats
- Field mice
So be careful.
Nobody wants to go to the big house over a muskrat.
Be safe out there!
