The Penalty for Littering in Utah…
I remember when I caught a close friend picking his nose and eating it in the sixth grade.
It was horrifying.
How had I not known I was spending time with someone who did something so gruesome.
Look I pick like crazy. I'm like Moses in the desert. But to make the jump to what he was doing was so over the line that it put him in a new category. He was now an animal.

I continued to hang out with him, but at an arms length.
This is how I feel when I discover someone who I know is a litterer.
Do you have any litterers in your life? Somebody who throws their Mcflurry cup out of the window on the highway? Who are these people?
Here's the Penalty for Littering in Utah
According to the State Legislature:
Effective 5/7/2025
41-6a-1713. Penalty for littering on a highway.
(1) | Except as provided in Subsection (3), an individual who violates any of the provisions of Section 41-6a-1712 is guilty of an infraction and shall be fined:
|
| (2) | The sentencing judge may require that the offender devote at least eight hours in cleaning up:
|
| (3) | An individual who violates Subsection 41-6a-1712(6) is guilty of a class C misdemeanor. |
So if you do it on the highway it's about $200 bucks.

I think it should be more.
