Yutan High School, a school of just over 200 kids located in Yutan, Nebraska was just minding their own business.

Never hurting anyone, the school has recently become a hot topic on the r/Utah page on Reddit after user, aBearHoldingAShark, posted their logo to the page.

Even though Yutan High School isn't in Utah, I think every single Utahn will adore their logo.

Like Most High School’s, Yutan probably has used many logos in the past, and will use many logos in the future, but this one is an absolute non-starter for people in Utah.

So what does it have to do with both BYU and Utah?

If you can’t figure out why, you probably aint from around these parts.

Let’s break it down.

According to the Nebraska Historical Society, Yutan was one of the first Indian settlement’s “seen by fur trappers and military expeditions traveling up the Platte Valley to the Rocky Mountains.” (mynehistory.com)

With a history connected directly with the Oto tribe, the High School uses the moniker of “Chieftains”.

They utilize a circle of life type design for this logo, much like the University of Utah’s circle and feather logo that was created by Lacee Harris.

Yutan does switch the feathers around for originality.

No doubt Ute nation likes to see that type of logo as the most sincere form of flattery is imitation, but here’s where it gets hairy.

Right in the middle of that familiar looking logo for Ute fans is a familiar looking logo for BYU fans.

The block Y in the center is eerily similar to a red version of BYU’s iteration of the same letter.

If you squint, its practically the same!

BYU and Utah have never, will never and should never like each other.

Look up any “top 15 in state college sports rivalries list” and there will be the Utes and Cougars.

So to combine two identifiable looks of both schools into one logo, unbeknownst to Yutan, they just committed a cardinal sin applicable only in a state about 700 miles away.

The users of Reddit certainly had their qualms with it.

“Even the name sounds like it’s mocking us” said user minnesotaupnorth in reference to Yutan.

PurrculesMulligan said that the logo “would cause a glitch in the matrix.”

The logo made bluecatenthusiast “incredibly uncomfortable.”

What do you think? Is the logo similar enough to irk either the BYU or Utah fan base or are we just grasping at straws here?

For some it’ll cause a reaction for others they will feel it isn't close enough and some will think it just needs a splash of Aggie blue.
