ON PAC 12 BOWL WOES

"The last couple of years, the PAC 12 is 1-7 in New Years Six bowl games. It has not been a good run…the lone win in that stretch was Oregon in the 2020 Rose Bowl against Wisconsin."

ON CAM RISING RETURNING

"I think if you’re looking for an upside as a Utes’ fan, I think losing this game makes it more likely that Cam Rising could come back. That’s a guy who could find a place in the NFL, but I don’t think he’d ever be a starter, I don’t think he would get the chance to do that. I don’t think he has the arm for it.

I think he’s going to be asking himself, ‘is that how I want to end my time at Utah? With that loss, not finishing the Rose Bowl again because of an injury, and the sting of losing the game two seasons in a row."

ON THE PAC 12 QB TALENT IN 2023

"[The PAC 12] Is going to be a crazy, crazy competitive league in 2023.

It’s as stacked at the quarterback position as I’ve ever seen it. You’ve got the reigning Heisman trophy winner and the leading passer in the country from the previous season coming back…when’s the last time that’s happened?

You’ll have Caleb Williams, Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix…and look at a guy like Cam Ward at Washington State, when that’s like your sixth best quarterback in the conference that’s an unbelievable quality of depth at quarterback."

ON NEWCOMBER DJ UIAGALELEI

"I think the new scenery for him shapes up very favorably. The biggest difference here is DJ isn’t going to a team that is going to allow him to be in the Heisman race, like Bo Nix did…

I don’t think DJ is going to go to Oregon State and light the world on fire and be in the Heisman conversation. But that’s not what Oregon State needs…he’s going to be a complementary piece. [The Beavers] are winning games with Ben Gulbranson who won a game by completing six passes and was very limited."
