Here's the three athletes that were presented to the judges:
Riley Nelson - Logan QB - 2005
JBT - I go back to 2003 to 2005 Logan High School Riley Nelson changed the game . Logan had been down for a number years. I know they want a you know back in the eighties but they had been down. Riley Nelson comes out of nowhere, running this spread offense, breaking every record...both running and passing. Won consecutive state championships at quarterback, played basketball as well. He was the best show in town, changed the whole outlook of football as far as running the spread, run/pass option plays...dynamic.
Look at this list of players from Nelson's junior year...
Next up...
Shawn Bradley - Emery HS - 1989
Listener Sugar Shane - I'm going Shawn Bradley. He was just dominant and he was dominant in the Nation. This wasn't just something Utah was talking about, the nation was talking about this kid from Castle Dale Utah. I want to say his senior year in basketball he averaged 25 points 17 rebounds and nine blocks a game!
Jim McMahon - Roy QB - 1979
Carphone Tony - I'm going to go back and say that it's Jim McMahon. Three sport athlete. Obviously great football player. An all-state basketball player and an all-state pitcher at Roy High and he would have been terrible but for the excellent tutelage that he received from a guy named Fred F. Thompson.
