Southern Utah, Don’t Feel Bad About This…
Vince Gilligan is the guy who wrote Breaking Bad...
And when he wrote the pilot, it was originally intended to be based in Riverside, California.
But when the Howard Stringer the CEO of SONY looked at the pilot and saw that it was good, he said we gotta get the heck out of California. We're gonna film in New Mexico.
So change up the story to be based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and not southern California!
Why? Well, New Mexico is going to give us a huge tax rebate and California is going to tax us to death. Ok...easy decision. The show moved to New Mexico.
I don't think anybody called out Howard Stringer or Vince Gilligan for being greedy and abandoning Hollywood. It was a dollars and cents decision. They went to the place that valued their show more.
Which is exactly why the Oakland A's are going to be coming to Vegas in the next few years. The organization announced this week they have an approved site for their stadium in Vegas right next to T-Mobile Arena and a couple of blocks north of Allegiant Stadium.
And Oakland A's fans are cursing the A's greedy billionaire owner John Fisher for taking their team away! But they're cursing the wrong person here. It's always easy to blame the billionaire, but Vegas is going to pay for the A's beautiful new stadium and is giving the organization a better deal and showing that they value the team more than Oakland does. Just like New Mexico valued Breaking Bad's more than California did.
A's fans should be cursing Oakland not John Fisher.
