This Utah School District Wants to Raise Taxes
There are those that say "children are the future."
And then there are others who say, "my kid thinks Brazil is in Europe."
There was a time when school was all about getting your hands swatted by a ruler.
The kids wore long pants and a shirt with buttons on it and they could tell you that Jefferson City was the capital of whichever state it was the capital of.
And teachers would stress about getting fired if their students didn't fill in the right bubbles on the state exam because if they didn't then that teacher would be sent back where they found him (R.C. Willey).
Nowadays, if a cluster of schools are wanting to be the best public schools in the state then they need iPads. And if they want iPads, they need more money. And if they need more money, then they can either have their students go out door-to-door and sell premium candy bars, or they can ask for more tax money.
According to KSL.com:
"The Alpine School District is asking taxpayers to fork over more money.
The district is proposing a 12.2% property tax increase and plans to hold a public hearing on the matter next month.
If approved, it would be the sixth tax hike in 10 years for taxpayers in the school district, which covers central and northern Utah County.
"The tax increases over the last several years have been pretty significant," said John Barrick, who lives in Orem and teaches accounting in college, making him "pretty familiar" with property taxes" (Full Article)
Ouch.
