Olivia Hamlin needs no introduction for fans of Region 9 or Utah 4A basketball.

She’s been tearing up the hardwood for what has seemed an eternity for her opponents in southern Utah.

A quick first step, a lethal shot, elite finishing at the rim and a defensive IQ second to none, Hamlin has more achievements at the high school level than many could ever imagine existed.

The Snow Canyon guard has surpassed 2,500 points across her high school career, 1 of only 2 players at the Utah prep level, and finishes her High School career as the two-time Utah 4A State Player of the Year.

Hamlin’s 28.4 points per game, 5.9 rebounds and 5.5 steals a night stat line posted in her senior season seems ripped straight from a video game.

But trust us, it was as real as it gets.

A modern basketball player who scores at will AND plays elite defense?

Hamlin is proof they still exist evident by her 486 steals, a career record in the state.

As a highly recruited prospect sitting at 59th overall per Prospect Nation, and 2nd overall in the state by Prep Girls Hoops, Hamlin had big offers from Clemson, BYU, UNLV, Virginia Tech and Nebraska.

She eventually decided on the Cornhuskers, committing to Nebraska last year, prior to her senior season at Snow Canyon.

Yet, anyone who as kept up with college sports as of late understands that nothing is ever set in stone, and just like on the hardwood, fate can change at any moment.

Today that was revealed to be the case once again, this time featuring Hamlin herself:

Much to the chagrin of those in Lincoln, Hamlin has now officially flipped and committed to BYU and new head coach, Lee Cummard.

When the Cougars were first in the mix for Hamlin, Cummard was still just an assistant.

With Cummard now at the helm, new personnel, new direction and new opportunity arose for BYU and Hamlin is a massive part of adding to that change.

We were excited to see Olivia ball at the next level in any state, but watching those fast breaks executed off a well timed perimeter steal will mean that much to all her fans while she represents the royal blue.
