Utah, If You See a Paw Print Sticker on Your Mailbox, Don’t Touch it
Thousands of mailmen and women are bitten by dogs every year.
The USPS has been trying to protect its workers by putting stickers on mailboxes that say if there's a dog at the house or if there's one close by. So if your mailbox has a dog paw sticker it could mean one of a couple of things. If it's a yellow sticker that means that their is a dog at nearby at one of your neighbors, if it's an orange sticker that means that you have a dog.
According to ABC4.com:
"Mail carriers are trained to watch out for potentially dangerous conditions and to respect a dog’s territory, but if a dog does attack, they are told to stand their ground and protect themselves with an object — such as a mail satchel — they can put between them and the animal’s mouth. They also have dog repellent if the situation warrants it."
It can be a scary job in some neighborhoods. I always wanted to be a postman because I figured you could just pop in your earbuds, listen to a podcast, you didn't have a lot of customer facing issues, you could just get your work done and go home.
But I didn't factor in the dogs.
I'm not a huge dog person. I've never had a dog as a pet. I don't understand why people love them so much they just seem big and loud and in your face. So if I were a mailman I would definitely have an issue with the dogs all over me.
Anyway, let me know what you think in the comments!
