Walgreens Closing 500 Stores including in Utah
Walgreens is closing 500 stores in 2025 according to AOL.com.
This is horrible news for people who love convenience and a stores that are located on corners.
And unlike the news that a lot of the department stores are closing, this one is more annoying because a lot of people get their prescriptions from Walgreens.
Some states, like Illinois and California, are losing dozens of stores.
As of now Utah has only lost one store:
7227 S State St, Midvale, UT 84047
Let's hope that it's limited to the one closure, but that might be wishful thinking.
I know Walgreens is expensive if you're going there to get Lucky Charms or Doritos, but it's always there. It's small and you don't have to wrestle people to the ground to get to the checkout like at other places. You're in and you're out.
From USA TODAY: (Click to read full article)
"Walgreens, which has about 8,500 locations in the U.S. (and more than 3,600 Boots branded stores in the U.K. and elsewhere), has closed about 2,000 locations over the past decade, [Walgreens CEO Timothy Wentworth] said. '"We expect to significantly ramp the pace of our store closures from the first quarter level,"' he said."
It's happening.
I guess businesses expand and contract and expand and contract and that's the dance we do until we all die of frog flu in the year 2031 or whatever the prophecies say.
It would be nice to stay stable and always have a Walgreens on every corner but that's just not realistic. What are you a child? Time to grow up and shave your beard. This isn't a frat house.
