It seems like every week a new huge company is laying off a bunch of people.

This week we're talking about Kroger Foods which is a huge grocery conglomerate that operates all over the country.

They operate in Utah under the Smith's brand.

Kroger has let hundreds of employees go recently including 200 within the last week.

Most of these positions seem to be at the corporate level meaning shoppers probably won't notice a change in the stores.

According to grantpasstribune.com

"Kroger, which operates more than 2,700 stores across the United States, has not disclosed whether the layoffs will have an impact on customer-facing positions at its grocery locations. However, with most cuts affecting corporate staff, the company aims to maintain the level of service that shoppers have come to expect in stores."

Here's a list to give you an idea of all the brands that are under the Kroger Co. umbrella:

Ralph's

Smith's

Fry's

Dillons

King Soopers

QCF

Pay Less

Pick 'n Save

Metro Market

Food 4 Less

And then there's several more.

To this point it sounds like they're gutting corporate positions of people who make a lot of money or sit on boards or are in management?

I'm not sure how all this works.

The point is hopefully this trend reverses and we can start hearing about companies hiring a bunch of people. That's what we like to here.

How many of these Kroger stores have you been to?

I've probably got 2-3 on my list with Smith's, Food 4 Less, and Pay Less.

They others are more regional I think.
