The Ease of Hitting in the Big Leagues

Pete Rose famously said that the easiest place to hit is in the big leagues.

He may have been drunk.

He said in the big leagues the lighting is better so you can see the ball really well, the rotation on the seams. It wasn't like that in Dubuque. He said in the big leagues pitchers are always around the strike zone. The control is better. The umps are better. You're facing the same pitchers year after year. Hitting in the MLB is easier than hitting in the minors. Hit king, who could doubt him?

AJ Dybantsa: A Rising Star in a Tough Competition

It's how I feel about AJ Dybantsa.

He's had a couple of subpar games against the best Big 12 competition: 6 field goals against Kansas, 1 rebound, 1 assist; 6 of 24 against Arizona, 1 of 8 from 3; 6 of 17 against Texas Tech.

And Sam Vecenie or whatever mock drafters are like, "Oh man, maybe his draft stock is falling." And there were nine NBA GMs in Lawrence, Kansas, and he didn't look great and...

The Rigors of Big 12 Basketball

Here's what I want to say, playing in the Big 12 is harder than playing in Club Med in the NBA. In the Big 12, Kelvin Sampson has his guys on the balls of their feet, he paddles them, they're right up on you. Grant McCasland, Bill Self, Scott Drew, these guys rumble with you for 40 minutes. There's no spacing, you're in a hotbox in Lubbock, Texas, 15,000 fans chanting, "Bleep the Mormons."

The NBA is like a game of cornhole at the company BBQ. Everybody is high on weed gummies, they're just there so they don't get fined. Every team shoots 40 threes a game. They don't play defense. You get to take every other game off. Egor Demin averaged 4 turnovers a game in the Big 12 last year! This year for the Nets he's Pistol Pete. Fancy-free. Euro style. Nobody guards him and the court is wide open.

No one cares if Dybantsa has a couple of off nights on the road in the Big 12. It's harder than the big leagues!
