There's nothing like hitting IN-N-OUT, putting on a podcast, kicking your seat back and drifting off to the sounds of Sam Harris and the smell of animal style onion remnants.

Is there anything more freeing than grabbing a cat nap in your car? Whether in a parking lot or out in nature somewhere or while in the Panda Express drive thru?

I guess most in-car napping probably takes place on the side of freeway ramps and usually by truckers.

I remember napping in my truck near a park and being awoken by the sound of a cops metallic flashlight tapping on my window. Horrifying.

He said: just checking you're all right.

So technically is it legal to nap in your car?

According to escapecampervans.com:

"Different rules and legal considerations apply to sleeping in your car, largely depending on local ordinances. For example, sleeping in your car on city streets is often prohibited by local laws in Utah and elsewhere.

To safely sleep in your car, be sure to double-check that the car is off, all doors and windows are locked, and to avoid isolated locations. It’s also encouraged to use some kind of covering to create a sense of privacy for sleeping."

Interesting, so some Utah city ordinances don't allow you to sleep in your car on a city street.

In 2023 article entitled The Rights of Residents, Willis Anderson wrote: (link to article)

"In recent weeks, the City of St. George, Utah, has garnered attention for adopting a new ordinance that makes it illegal for residents to sleep in their vehicles, be it a car, van, truck, motorhome, or camper."

This is insane to me. Shouldn't you be able to sleep in your car wherever you want?
