For the past 15 years the superhero genre has dominated the big screen in the form of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

From Iron Man to the Avengers as whole, you would be hard pressed to meet anyone under the age of 40 who isn’t at least somewhat familiar with the concept of superheroes and their presence on the big screen.

Gone are the days where a kid has to explain to his dad why that nerd kid has spider powers.

Most of the world is now aware that with great power comes great responsibility.

Unfortunately however, many people see superheroes the same way your grandparent might see video game console.

Just like grandpa thinks a PlayStation or an Xbox is just a “Nintendo”, most think any hero must be a “Marvel.”

The MCU has had such a stranglehold on the genre that many out of the loop fans may have forgotten the differences between who’s a Marvel character and who is a DC comics character.

Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and the Justice League as a whole have watched as Marvel has upstaged them time and time again when it comes to the cinema experience.

After all, according to boudingintocomics.com, Wonder Woman, the most successful movie of the DCEU, DC’s answer to the MCU, would be only the 8th most successful Marvel movie from an earnings perspective.

Wonder Woman made $412 million, Marvel’s top dog, Avengers Endgame, made $858 Million. (boundingintocomics.com)

So what is DC's newest vision for their movie universe?

DC has now abandoned the DCEU and entrusted James Gunn, a staple of the MCU with his “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy to reset the hierarchy of superhero films as the creative head of DC studios.

Gunn’s first major motion picture attempt to put DC back on the map with moviegoers is just around the corner with the debut of the newest version of the big blue boy scout in Superman, releasing on July 11th.

The Man of Steel’s newest cinema adventure is directed and written by Gunn while being produced by Peter Safran.

Starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane the film will be the first theatrical taste of what Gunn can bring to the table with beloved characters who have been in less than loved movies as of late.

The hype train for the film hit the tracks back In December and has slowly been teasing superhero fans with trailers and images of the characters ever since.

That all reaches a peak with the final preview of the film releasing just the other day.

Here below you can get a good look of what to expect in this telling of Superman featuring Lois Lane, Lex Luthor and many many more who’s roles in the film will certainly be relevant.

Whatever your hype level may be for this movie, there’s no denying the previews paint a different version of Superman than the last iteration to hit the cinematic big screen.

For better or worse, DC hopes a new lens on the Metropolis Marvel is enough to lift the daily planet sized boulder off their backs while unfurling a new pathway for the likes of it’s historic roster of characters and their time at the movies.

There’s no telling how the movie will be received, the money it will make or if it can overcome the recent super hero fatigue, but one thing is for certain:

This looks like a job for Superman.
