Featured Article - Keric Seegmiller Returns to the Mic for ESPN 97.7

The most famous play in Utah Tech football history happened on November 2nd, 2019.

It was a tag team interception that ended up being the top play on Sportscenter, which meant it was seen by billions. Kids in Istanbul reenacted it at recess the next day, men in cubicles shouted out loud, stars on Twitter like LeBron James saw it (he said “yeah, but my son could have done that.”)

But I may have been most impressed by the announcer. In the midst of one of the most spectacular, unique plays you’ll ever see, the announcer didn’t fumble on the most important part of the play: saying the player’s name correctly!

Keep in mind the kid’s name was Kaejin Smith-Bejgrowicz (give it a try). And during the excitement in the booth, having just seen something that’s only happened a handful of times in the history of organized football, Keric Seegmiller nailed the call.

Seegmiller was the voice of Dixie State for years and was apart of some of its most successful seasons in football and basketball but also softball and many other sports.

“Keric was always unbelievably prepared,” said Utah Tech head softball Coach Randy Simkins. “And extremely hard-working. He loved all of the sports in our athletic department and knew the athletes well. We loved having Keric working with our softball team and traveling with us.”

One of Seegmiller’s former colleagues is Ryan Forsey, a longtime coach and member of the Dixie high school basketball programs.

“Keric is a student of the craft, always seeking to improve,” said Forsey. “Most all, he’s willing to work hard, adapt, and try new things. Which is why I’ve always enjoyed working with him!”

Seegmiller has called games at every level, but is currently relishing the opportunity to call Region Nine athletics.

“It’s an honor to call Region Nine games,” he said. “I’ve also worked games at the professional and collegiate level, and the energy and passion at Region 9 games is as intense as any level I’ve worked. We have some of the best coaches, student-athletes, and fans in the state, and they make my job easy.”

Seegmiller will be on the call this Wednesday night as Desert Hills clashes with Crimson Cliffs on ESPN 97.7.
