HS Football Slate For Southern Utah
Week 1, here we go!
High School football begins to dot the landscape here in Utah starting as soon as tonight with Davis visiting Brighton as the 1A to 6A classifications kickoff their 2025 season.
From St. George to Cedar City, Enterprise to Hildale the local squads will be taking the gridiron in less than 30 hours.
Nerves are apparent, anticipation is high and the competitive fire burns in every athlete who looks forward to accomplishing preset team and individual goals.
There are currently no winners, no losers, just teams with an 0-0 record and a hope to achieve greatness.
With that being said, lets check in on when and where some of our local teams in relative proximity to St. George will be entering battle this Friday, and if they’ve matched up before:
All games listed will take place Friday, August 15th.
UTAH 4A: Region 9
Faith Lutheran, Nevada Crusaders at Desert Hills Thunder
Where: Desert Hills High School, St. George, Utah @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: Faith Lutheran won 25-23 last year in week 1 play.
Crimson Cliffs Mustangs at Lone Peak Knights (6A)
Where: Lone Peak High School, Highland, Utah @ 7:00 PM
No prior history, first ever matchup between the two schools.
Dixie Flyers at Richfield Wildcats (3A)
Where: Richfield High School, Richfield, Utah, @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: Dixie rumbled to a 48-14 win back in 1996. First gridiron meeting in almost 30 years.
Manti Templars (3A) at Pine View Panthers
Where: Pine View High School, St. George, Utah @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: The Templars bested the Panthers last year 58-42 on the opening week.
Virgin Valley, Nevada Bulldogs at Hurricane Tigers
Where: Hurricane High School, Hurricane, Utah @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: 2009 saw the Tigers mangle the Mesquite team with a 52-7 win.
Snow Canyon Warriors at Spanish Fork Dons
Where: Spanish Fork High School, Spanish Fork, Utah @ 7:00 PM
1st known battle between the Warriors and Dons.
UTAH 3A: 3A South
Bear River Bears (4A) at Cedar Reds
Where: Cedar High School, Cedar City, Utah, @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: Cedar’s recent move to 3A will debut with a team they bested just last year, 34-28 in Garland.
Jordan Beetdiggers (4A) @ Canyon View Falcons
Where: Canyon View High School, Cedar City, Utah @ 7:00 PM
First recorded battle between Jordan and CVHS
UTAH 1A: 1A South
Parowan Rams at Providence Hall Patriots (2A)
Where: Providence Hall High School, Herriman, Utah @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: The Rams blanked the Patriots 35-0 almost a year ago.
Enterprise Wolves at North Summit Braves
North Summit High School, Coalville, Utah, @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: The Wolves tore through North Summit 35-6 in 2023.
Kanab Cowboys VS Emery Spartans (2A) (Rural UT Preview)
Where: Snow College, Ephraim, Utah @ 8:00 PM
Last meeting: The Spartans emerged victorious, 61-30, in 2012.
Moapa Valley, Nevada Pirates at Beaver Beavers
Where: Beaver High School, Beaver, Utah, @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: In 1988 these out of state foes met resulting in a 32-26 Pirate win.
Utah 1A 8-Player:
Panguitch Bobcats at Milford Tigers
Where: Milford High School, Milford, Utah @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: This season will be Panguitch’s first fray into football in a very very long time whereas Milford will have their first season at the 8-man level after being in 1A.
Worth noting however is the Deseret News saying these guys played football in 1975, when Milford pounded Panguitch 58-14.
Water Canyon Wildcats at Utah Military Camp Williams Marauders
Where: Lehi High School, Lehi, Utah @ 7:00 PM
Last meeting: The Wildcats began last year with a bang by putting up 72 points compared to the Marauder’s zero.
As you can see, there is no reason to not find a game near you tomorrow night.
