Beware Trap…New Text Scam Targeting Utah
I get a million texts and calls a day from robots who are stationed somewhere in Uzbekistan or maybe Reno.
I ignore all calls and have my phone on 'Do Not Disturb' which is great. That way even people who are real humans and want to talk to me can't either.
New Text Scam Originating from the Philippines
Utahns are reporting receiving texts from a +63 number about missing tolls.
Have you gotten these?
It says it's from the Utah Department of Transportation?
Here's what they look like:
Do not fall for these scams!

+63 is the country code for the Philippines.
Which I guess makes it super obvious that it's fake, and the fact that they would text you this type of alert also is fake, but I'm curious how many people they get to bite?
I'm sure they're getting about 5% of people and that's what justifies their persistence in doing this constantly.
According to u/ashotep:
"forward these texts to 7726 (spam) on all carriers. it helps the phone companies more quickly block and trace these to prevent and stop spam texts. /FYI"
I also think there's a feature on iPhones that prompts you to report numbers you just have to click "yes" or "no" if it's spam.

"I'm sorry but if someone is falling for a scam from a Philippines Area Code pretending to be the Utah DoT or a toll system that doesn't extend west of Minnesota, there's not really much help for them anyway."
Right, but some aren't as tech savvy or are from a different generation where when you got an warning in the mail or something you paid it posthaste!
So be careful out there!
