Dixie Flyers Ready To Prove Themselves With Fresh Talent
With Region 9 football season right around the corner, let’s take a quick peak into what we can look forward to this upcoming year by understanding where these teams were a season ago.
Today we look at the Dixie Flyers.
Last Year’s Record:
Overall: 4-7
Region 9: 3-3
Wins:
At Hurricane 41-35
At Cedar 35-34
At Snow Canyon 31-14
At Pine View (Playoffs First Round) 48-35
Last year’s Biggest run:
Dixie stumbled out of the gates with a 1-5 start but demonstrated their tenacity by finishing the season with a 2-1 push into the playoffs.
That momentum would result in a first round double digit playoff victory over a Pine View team who bested them in the regular season during an overtime Region 9 thriller.
During that 3-1 October stretch, Dixie would average 33.5 points and their only defeat would come to eventual state champion, Crimson Cliffs, by a single point.
Last year’s end result:
That new found momentum in October would allow the Flyers to bump up to the #18 overall seed come playoff time.
Dixie enacted that sweet revenge on rival Pine View, the 15th seed, in a high scoring affair with a 48-35 win in the opener, scheduling a date up north with the #2 Provo Bulldogs.
The Flyers led 13-0 after the first quarter before giving up 34 unanswered points as the season came to a conclusion in the 2nd round due to the Bulldogs stifling defense.

Points Per Game:
Season: 21.3
Region 9: 26.8
Points Allowed Per Game:
Season: 36.2
Region 9: 31.3
Offensive Yards Per Game:
256.6
180.9 rush yards per game, 75.7 passing yards per game.
The Flyers averaged 17 pass attempts a game compared to 36.2 rush attempts last year.
Returning Offensive Yards From Last Year (Expected Returner Contribution):
952 yards of 3,656 total yards supposedly returning via last years passing, rushing and receiving production combined.
26 % of offensive production is anticipated to return.
This does not take into consideration any move-outs or transfers, but rather the amount of last years roster that graduated.
Returning Defensive Contribution Measured By Total Tackles:
376 of 727 total tackles returning.
51.7 % of tackling production is estimated to be back.
Last Region 9 Title:
2018 (11-2, 6-0)
Lost 4A State Championship to the Orem Tigers 60-13.
Last HS Football State Championship:
2014
Dixie’s last time hoisting the title happened in 2014 when they outlasted Hurricane 27-19 for the 3AA title.
The Flyers have appeared in a state title game 13 times in school history with 6 championships.
The 2014 title was their 2nd in a three season span also winning it all in 2012.
Out of Region Record (Last 3 seasons, including playoffs):
3-11
Region Record (last 3 seasons, including playoffs):
12-7
Wins as Underdog last season, based on Noland Parry’s Power Guide of the Deseret News:
Every single Dixie win last season came away from Dixie High School.
2 of those victories were as underdogs in the week 8 win in Cedar and the Week 9 triumph at Snow Canyon.
The Flyers were the favored team in both wins over Hurricane and even their playoff match up against Pine View.
Consecutive Streak:
During the strong finish to the season where Dixie went 3-2 with a playoff win, the Flyers recorded more than 100 rushing yards every game.
This all came while the defense produced a double digit tackler in all 5 contests.
1st game of the 2025 season:
At Richfield Wildcats on August 15th.
Per the Deseret News this will be the first time since 1996 that these squads have met up.
A new era starts at Dixie High School.
Despite plenty of question marks going into the season and a lot of production to replace due to graduation, Region 9 would be wise to never count the Flyers out.
