Hey Utah, NASCAR Has a New Home This Weekend
No denying it, the NASCAR Cup season is a long one.
Count up 1 preseason race, 1 All-Star race, 26 Regular season races all followed by 10 playoff performances and you get a 38 race slate that spans from February 2nd to November 2nd.
That’s a race every weekend except one (Easter Weekend) ranging from Las Vegas to Miami, from Phoenix to New York.
Like the product on the track, the schedule is hectic, fast moving and will pass you by if you don’t pay attention.
Take for example, NASCAR has 4 different television homes in a single season as of this year, meaning depending on time of year, the action could be on FOX/FS1, TNT or NBC/USA.
Starting this weekend with the coveted Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, NASCAR will be entering the streaming sphere head on for the first time by televising the event on Prime Video.
This will end the portion of the schedule that saw FOX/FS1 televise 14 consecutive Cup series races and will start up a 5 race streak for the streaming giant.
Those 5 races include the aforementioned Charlotte, Nashville, Michigan, Pocono and the first ever Cup race in Mexico.
Prime Video needs little introduction as Amazon’s offered streaming service, coming included with any Amazon Prime membership.
If you get a lot of packages, you likely have access to a lot of streaming content.
And if you don’t do much of the online shopping, you can still subscribe to Prime Video as a separate entity.
In fact, if you aren’t keen on paying for yet another service, coinciding with Prime’s NASCAR schedule, they are offering a 30-day free trial as of now.
Normally associated with movies and TV shows, Prime has made a major splash in the world of sports over the last few years, and NASCAR Cup coverage will be another feather in the hat.
The biggest deal that Prime could boast would be exclusive rights to every Thursday Night Football game through the NFL regular season and exclusive rights to a Wild Card playoff game.
Adding NASCAR, a predominantly cable based league, was a no-brainer as sports begin to bleed into streaming services.
The new broadcast has a chance to introduce fans to some new or differing concepts than others might do who cover the sport.
Regardless, Prime Is looking at making an impact and racing fans are eager to see what experience they provide this Sunday.
The Coca-Cola 600 begins Sunday the 25th at 4:00 Mountain time, exclusively on Prime Video.
