LOOK: 102 People Arrested in Washington County Utah This Week
I can't imagine there's anything worse than sleeping in your car, being woken up by the metallic knock on your window, having a warrant, and the cop being like: "I wish I could let ya go but you haven't paid a parking ticket since before Milli Vanilli was outed.
There have been 102 arrests in Washington County in the last five days. That seems like a ton to me but I haven't been tracking it consistently. Maybe that's not a lot. Here's the link to the bookings page
A lot of them are traffic related, DUI's, criminal trespass, open containers etc...
The problem with getting arrested is the mugshot is available for all to see. At least, that's how it used to be.
According to the Washington County bookings page, the mugshots are no longer available because of HB 228.
According to the Liberitas Institute: (LINK TO FULL ARTICLE)
"When a presumably innocent person’s mugshot is released to the public, it doesn’t matter if the charges get dismissed or if they’re guilty after all. In the public’s eyes, they’re guilty of whatever crime they’ve been accused of. And even after accusations die and the court process plays out, the mugshot will live on in the public-facing and everlasting internet, to the individual’s detriment."
I didn't realize this change had been made but it kind of makes sense. If they're not guilty yet, then why are we putting their picture out publicly? I mean I guess you could argue it's for the public good to know what they look like if they're going to get out on bail, but they're still technically innocent until proven otherwise.
What do you think about this?
