Utah, the NFL HOF Needs to go Fishing
Shower Thought - January 28, 2026
I remember the first season of Survivor like it was yesterday. May 31, 2000, 15 million people tuned into the first episode. It was gritty, dog-eat-dog, scratch-and-claw Darwin, do anything to win, betray everyone; they were eating beetles, they had to stay underwater for a long time—it was cutthroat and awesome. And then they made a big boo-boo at the end. The season finale, 125 million people watched, which is more than the Super Bowl. And instead of having the two finalists scrap it out in a winner-take-all challenge, they brought in all the losers to vote. And they got up there: 'You were mean to me in episode 4,' or 'You ate more than your fair share of rice in episode 7,' 'You lied to me,' whatever. It was horrible. Why were we empowering these losers? Why are they in charge of who wins the million dollars?
This is what I thought of yesterday when Bill Belichick didn't make the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. There are 50 people on the committee; 11 of them voted 'no' because Belichick was mean to them on the field, or they want to punish him for Spygate, or they're angry that he dominated the league for 20 years and they never got to win. Burn it down. Get a new committee: Belichick your president, Lombardi first lieutenant, Cignetti secretary. They decide everything. Whoever is currently on the panel gets flown to Idaho and spend the rest of their lives on the lake. It's just too much.
