The Utah Jazz Guaranteed to Look Better Next Year
Utah’s 116-105 loss in Minnesota this Sunday was the final piece of the puzzle for the 2024-2025 Utah Jazz.
It was the tail end of the season and the final touch to the teams worst record in their franchise history.
Utah won 17 games on the year and lost 65, the first time they have ever lost 60 or more games in a season.
They were the last active NBA team to avoid such depths.
Now fully emerged in the stench of tanking, Utah hopes to see things in a new light next season.
Or, at least their fans certainly do.
The off season brings all sorts of hope for a fresh restart and optimism.
Fans await new personnel, new players, new services and renovations with all manner of new wrinkles that can distract them from a previous year’s failure.
The team is obviously fixated on this year’s draft and a high-end, high quality draft pick whereas Utah is guaranteed no worse than the 5th overall selection, while being tied for the very best odds at the #1 overall pick.
But even if the lottery balls don’t bounce the teams way, young players struggle to develop and the Delta Center renovations end up horribly wrong, fans can be certain the team will look better next year.
No, I’m not talking about the coaches, the players or the style of play but rather the uniforms they play in.
Part of the struggle of watching the worst team in the NBA this year was when they would wear some of the worst uniforms in the NBA.
Well, no more.
The Jazz may still stink next year and the off-season may do little to quelch any fears, but the team will at least look good (stylistically speaking).
The “highlighter yellow” era of the Jazz has officially come to a close with the season ending on Sunday.
Despite a toned down approach this year, the white uniforms with black and yellow trim and the black uniforms with yellow trim both reared their ugly heads this season.
Now, they are officially a thing of the past, destined to become a faded memory forged in regret right next to drafting Enes Kanter and getting Gordon Hayward styled hair cuts.
Next season will see the team debut the full set of their new “mountain basketball” phase.
Out of the four upcoming uniform options, three will be brand spanking new.
You have the purple on white “association” uniform, the yet to be revealed “City” edition uniform (the one Lauri is wearing below was for this season only), and the “Icon” edition, a purple, filled in version of the white association set.
The black and white “statement” mountain backdrop jersey was worn this season and will happily be see again without the subtle shock of switching from these beauties back to the bumblebee aesthetic on a game to game basis.
It’s a much anticipated time for fans who weren’t about generic fonts and even worse color schemes.
Once again, Utah’s uniforms will feel like a representation of they state they play in, and with the NHL team name change on the horizon, it’s about to be a busy time for the Delta Center’s team store.
As great as non school bus inspired gear is, I still wouldn't count on the Jazz getting everything you want this off season, and even if they do you may not want to count on them being good.
Still, you can sure as heck count on them having much more style than in the past 3 seasons, even if their play isn’t as pleasing on the eyes.
And for the current state of the team, every little positive bit helps.
