This Utah Lake is Considered One of Bluest in the Country
There are those who say: forget the ocean! I want a big fat lake with a Chipotle within 1.5 miles.
And then there are those who say: "If I'm not close to an ocean my anxiety flares up and I feel landlocked."
I'm the former.
Every time I've been to the Pacific Ocean it's been cold and windy. The sky is always overcast and the water is always freezing. Ocean is overrated! Gimme and nice serene lake with a clear blue sky any day!
If you're like me and love lakes, one of the prettiest, cleanest and bluest is right here in the Beehive State.
Bear Lake!
Look at that water! It's like the Bahamas out there!
Jeez.
According to islands.com: (LINK TO FULL ARTICLE)
"On the border between Utah and Idaho is one of the oldest and deepest lakes in the region: Bear Lake. The lake's impressive depth is not the reason most people make their way to Bear Lake State Park, however — it's the color. While it's more than 3,000 miles away from Caribbean islands, Bear Lake has earned the nickname the "Caribbean of the Rockies" because it has startlingly blue water reminiscent of the waves off of the best beaches in the Caribbean, thanks to the calcium carbonate found in the waters of Bear Lake."
I didn't realize it was called the "Caribbean of the Rockies" but it makes sense.
I love Bear Lake. When you're driving through the canyon and you come out and you're on top of the mountain looking down at the lake it's breathtaking. Need to go more often.
