What We Learned From Media Day (Part 2)
List of things I learned at Media Day...(continued)
6. Every player from Snow Canyon had a smile from ear to ear the whole time they were in studio. For obvious reasons this is a special group for Coach Mike Esplin. And although this is a much hyped senior class with big expectations, they don't seem to be letting the pressure get to them.
7. Pine View is the biggest wild card for me this year. They have been the team to beat for much of the past 4-5 years in region. It's the post-McKenzie era (and Beckers, Adams, Coach Crowton etc...). But it's years like this when Pine View can lean on the program and the culture Coach Hosner has built up for the last two decades. These guys are rearing and ready to go. Jacob Sersansie is one of the most physically gifted football players in Region. He made amazing plays in the secondary last year for the Panthers. This year he'll get some carries too. Abe Rosenlund won a hotly contested QB battle over the spring and summer and should have a ton of confidence this season. And Preston Christensen and Tyson Dinsmore will be patrolling the secondary. I can't wait to see them against Stansbury on Friday night.
8. Crimson Cliffs is all about I.Q. this year. First year head coach Wayne Alofipo, wants his team to be the smartest in the region even if they're one of the youngest teams this year. Steele Barben is...a Barben. So what else do you need to know? Parker Andrus is an Andrus. I was impressed by big Stone Hansen. He dipped his facemask visor in Kool-aid so now it has a Crimson sheen to it. He's huge. The Mustangs want Bama or at least that's how they schedule. Watch out for Green Canyon week one, Spanish Fork week two and Timpview week 3.
We'll see you Friday night on ESPN 977!
