There's nothing worse than the star player being injured for the championship game.

It happened in 2010 when Colt McCoy got hurt in the first quarter against Alabama. And the Crimson Tide rolled. It was a terrible game. And a terrible championship.

It almost happened to Patrick Mahomes this year. Think of how lame the super bowl would have been if it was Jalen Hurts versus Chad Henne!

The whole season was played with your ace star quarterback or whatever and then it gets to the championship and you've gotta play with backups. That takes a lot of the fun out of it...

But that's what the UHSAA does every year in high school baseball. We had our media day yesterday. Always awesome. Baseball starts this week. And the whole season is always super-competitive in Southern Utah. Tons of talent.

Each team selects their top two pitchers who pitch literally every game in region play. Tuesday night starter. Friday Night starter. These guys go with a full week's worth of rest all season. Just like big league pitchers.

And then the double elimination playoffs start. And you have to play a million games in one weekend. Which means, by the time the championship comes around, the team that battled back in the losers bracket is pitching an eighth grader.

A kid who hasn't pitched all year. And the title is a downer. Everybody is worn out. You haven't played this way all year. It's like if the Chiefs played without Mahomes. UHSAA please consider giving the championship its own weekend. We want to see best on best. That's all.
