PLAYOFFS! 4A State Tournament Starts Tonight in St. George
13 Green Canyon at 4 Snow Canyon 7PM - ESPN 97.7
The last time these two squared off was earlier this season on December 16, 2022.
Snow Canyon won 62-57.
Owen Mackay had 27 points on 8-18 shooting from the field.
Green Canyon's Jared Anderson scored 26 points for the Wolves.
Anderson has been Green Canyon's leading scorer all year long:
The Warriors played a remarkably clean game only turning the ball over four times and had 10 team assists. Snow Canyon also made 10 of 21 three pointers and got to the free throw line 19 times which is awesome.
But they only won by five points.
They had Mackay go off, they didn't turn the ball over, they made a bunch of threes at a high clip and they got to the line and it was still close.
Green Canyon was only 2-9 in Region 11 play, and I think Snow Canyon has gotten better and better throughout the year so it's clear that the Warriors are going to be big favorites tonight. But I'm sure Coach Meacham has the game tape from their first game to remind his players that the Wolves need their full attention tonight.
12 Mountain Crest at 5 Crimson Cliffs 7PM - Fox Sports 101.9 / 99.1
Crimson is coming off of their biggest win of the year on Friday night against Dixie.
They played ferocious team basketball for 32 minutes and have got to be feeling like they can beat anyone in the state right now.
Mountain Crest's crossover games this year: they lost to Cedar 73-71, they lost to Desert Hills 52-47, and they beat Pine View 58-56.
10 Cedar at 7 Desert Hills 7PM - KSUB 590AM
These two teams played in an epic 3OT thriller last year in this round of the playoffs.
The last time they played Desert Hills got the 69-63 win in Cedar, and the Thunder also beat them at home earlier in the year.
14 Hurricane at 3 Ridgeline 7PM
The Tigers are huge underdogs against one of the best teams in the state. No question Nifai Iloa, RJ Wright, Cayleb Jackman, and Carter Ashby are going to leave it all out on the floor tonight.
11 Pine View at 6 Layton Christian 7PM
This game is very intriguing.
Layton Christian is a team that has climbed up classifications after winning the state championship last year in 3A. They've shown that they can beat teams like Snow Canyon earlier in the year. They lost to Dixie.
Pine View has been playing their best defense of the year, and have an awesome tandem in their backcourt with Nash Schroeder and Griffen Shepherd.
Hoping for an upset here.
