Utah, Did You See This? Oilers Rally From Three Down For A Historic Game 4 Win
The Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers have played a total of 4 games up to this point In the Stanley Cup finals.
3 of those games have resulted in 4 overtime periods altogether.
Last night’s Game 4 was a prime example of not only another overtime game, but a great illustration of how truly wild this series has been as it can’t help but rewrite the history books.
So what hockey history have the Oilers and Panthers rewritten?
With a 2-1 series lead at the time, the Florida Panthers choked on a 3-0 game 4 lead on their home ice, allowing Edmonton to tie the game in the 2nd period.
The Oilers would eventually take a lead off of 4 unanswered goals for a score of 4-3.
Yet the Panthers would then respond by banging in a goal off the stick of Sam Reinhart with 19.5 seconds to go in the 3rd period to force overtime.
That goal would be the 2nd latest goal in a finals game in NHL playoff history.
The latest game tying goal ever in the finals? Edmonton’s Corey Perry who did it two games earlier.
That’s right, both historic marks have happened this season.
The theatrics didn’t just stop there however as Leon Draisaitl stepped up to the plate in overtime and scored yet another game winning overtime goal to send the Panthers packing.
That would be Draisaitl’s 4th overtime winning goal in this postseason alone, the most ever by an individual player in Stanley Cup playoff history.
If you need more zany statistics on this now 2-2 series ,We also just witnessed the first ever team to win a Stanley Cup final game after being down 3-0 at the end of the first period.
Highs, lows, runs, stops, big hits, crafty moves, potent offense, stifling defense, great goal tending, this series literally has everything that makes the NHL a hit topic this time of year.
It’s become a must watch on any given night with the end result practically unpredictable as the on-ice product delivers with thrills from both squads.
For Utah fans, this is the perfect finals in their inaugural season, as fans can truly appreciate the beauty that is playoff hockey without the overbearing stress of having your team in these scenarios.

Like honestly, imagine the mindset of Oiler and Panther fans right now.
Doesn’t seem fun for them, but it’s an extreme blast for us, a perfect encapsulation of what makes hockey such a great sport, and hopefully one day soon we will see the Mammoth playing in such atmospheres.
But before expectations get to high and disappointment becomes a worry, enjoy the sport to the fullest, and the best way to do that is by watching these two heavy weights scramble for any type of advantage.
Game 5 will be back in Edmonton this Saturday at 6:00 PM on TNT.
