Southern Utah Boys Basketball Scores
Dixie 43 Crimson Cliffs 42
Another amazing game in The Hangar.
Crimson Cliffs gave the Dixie Flyers, the number two team in 4A, all they could handle. The Mustangs were lead by Steele Barben who scored 12 points, Jordan Eaton had 11, and Sean Felts scored 10.
But most impressive was Crimson's defensive effort. Phoenix McWillis, Eaton, Felts all combined to make things difficult for the Flyers who were held well below their season scoring average, 71 points per game.
Despite the great defensive effort Dixie's Kyle Lemke still scored 21 points on 50% shooting from the field.
Crimson's Luke Johnson just missed the go-ahead three with seconds left and Dixie survived at home.
Pine View 61 Desert Hills 52
By Rustyn Burnside, ESPN 97.7
The Panthers have hung in every single game in region play this year for at least two quarters. They were certainly better than their 2-12 record but it was still a shock when they came in and beat a desperate Thunder team on their home floor to the tune of 61-52.
The Panthers defense was locked in all night as Desert Hills offense never took off outside of Lincoln Holmes 27 points and Eli Allred’s 17 which accounted for 44 of DHills 52 points. For Pine View the scoring was also a bit top heavy as three Panthers saw double digit scoring. They were led by Nash Schroeders 25 as his quickness and shooting chops were on display all night. Griffen Shepherd had 18 and Tim Long poured in 10.
The Thunder made two more triples than Pine View at 9 made, but struggled with turnovers and efficiency. Desert Hills find themselves in the midst of a 4 game skid whereas Pine View has won two consecutive games for the first time all season.
The Thunder will look to rebound as they travel to Cedar on Friday with a 9-7 record while being 2-4 in region. Pine View now sits at 3-12 while being 2-4 in region themselves. The Panthers will have their region 10 break this Friday and will hit the hardwood next Wednesday. Desert Hills was #6 in the RPI coming into the contest which means the Panthers should be hopeful for a nice bump upfrom their current #13 spot.
