Former BYU QB Taysom Hill Makes NFL History
For many BYU fans this weekend was one of sorrow and suffering.
The 17-13 loss to Kansas was enough to make fans question where BYU’s once certain destiny now truly lies as the season enters the homestretch.
Yet, the loss that could be solely responsible for leaving the Cougars out of the college football playoffs and even the Big 12 championship game (hypothetical here) didn’t ruin every Cougars weekend.
Former BYU wide receiver, Puka Nacua had 7 receptions and 123 yards with a touchdown in a LA Rams victory over New England for example.
But for one Cougar in particular, this weekend ended up being more than ok despite their alma mater’s defeat.
Former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill not only helped will the New Orleans Saints to their 2nd straight win by taking down the Cleveland Browns, but did so by making history on the way.
Hill didn’t join anyone in the top “whatever” to play the game, he didn’t break someone’s record, he didn’t get his name added to the record books, he simply set the standard himself.
In a class of his own, 2nd to none, Hill set the benchmark for what it means to just be an all around football player.
Even if the numbers are a bit random here, it’s essential note how rare being an all around athlete is outside of High School football.
Never one to fit into any position by definition, Hill showed he was more than a QB in Provo, becoming the Cougars leading rushing touchdown and yardage leader from the QB spot with 32 touchdowns and 2,815 ground yards.
Now in the NFL his role has expanded further, demonstrated by his snap count in the Saints win this last Sunday.
For Hill, years removed from torturing Texas, now in year 8 of his pro career, his ability to impact the game from anywhere and everywhere remains one of the coolest stories in football, and Cougar fans hope to see more records set by the Mormon Missile.
