For 36 years fans have been able to count on a professional football video game being released by EA Sports.

Of course, in 2024, there is no exception.

As soon as Madden 25 is available to pick up on August 16th, one can expect to hear outcry from fans.

After all, there is no such thing as a universally loved video game these days, unless its from Nintendo themselves.

Some will be bothered by game play, some by graphics, and a big noisemaker will be the virtual ratings of the players themselves.

Ratings in the Madden franchise are indicative of how good an athlete is in the game.

A 50 overall rating is awful, like the Rams 4th string QB, Dresser Winn.

A 99 overall rating is as good as it gets, and is reserved for players like Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes.

EA Sports had been unrolling these rating slowly prior to the game releasing and today we bore witness to the rating of the best linebackers according to the game.

For BYU and Utah State fans interested in the game or the accolades of their former athletes, it was a good day.

Aggie faithful saw their 2008-2011 defensive leader, Bobby Wagner nab the 9th overall spot with an 87 overall rating.

Wagner posted 445 total tackles in Cache Valley with 11.5 Tackles for loss, 4 sacks and two interceptions.

Time has certainly accelerated since Wagner was taken 47th overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Going into his first season as a Washington Commander, the 13 year veteran has accumulated a resume of 1,706 total tackles, 89 tackles for loss, 33 sacks, 13 interceptions and six forced fumbles.

One of the most respected linebackers in the league, Wagner will look to bring consistency to the team that allowed the most PPG to an opponent last year. (30.5)

Even if he alone cant right the ship that is the Washington defense, Madden clearly expects him to be as impactful as ever.

With 12 years of playing, Wagner has made the pro-bowl 9 of those times, and the AP First Team All-pro squad 6 times.

Speaking of impact, the game has no higher rating for a linebacker in Madden 25 than Fred Warner and his 97 overall.

The current San Francisco 49er takes the number one spot to the delight of BYU fans.

Warner, a Cougar from 2014-2017 tallied 264 total tackles, 32 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and 7 interceptions in Provo, good for two defensive touchdowns.

Drafted by San Francisco in 2018 with the 70th selection, Warner has only ever known the 49ers.

His resume makes it easy to see why he is such a major contributor to one of the most dangerous defenses in pro football.

766 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, 8 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles are nothing to scoff at in only a 6 year career.

Warner has been selected for the pro-bowl and first-team AP All-Pro honors three times in his career up to this point.

San Francisco has super bowl aspirations and the weight of those goals weigh heavily on the former Cougar.

After all, heavy is the head that wears the crown and per Madden 25, when it comes to linebackers, Warner is king.
